How to read it
Reports, not verdicts. Streets, not doors.
The police publish every recorded crime with its category, month and an anonymised location snapped to the nearest of a fixed set of street points — so a dot shows roughly where, never exactly which house. The latest month available is usually about two months behind today. A high number in one category isn't a prediction about your home; it's a pattern worth designing around. We look at exactly this data before every survey.

Is this data official?
Yes — it's the Home Office's open policing data at data.police.uk, the same source behind Police.uk's public maps.
Why is the latest month two months ago?
Forces publish on a delay so records can be verified. It's the most recent data anyone has.
Does a burglary dot mean a specific house?
No. Locations are anonymised to the nearest of a set of street points. It tells you the street area, not the address.
Do you store my postcode?
No. The lookup runs in your browser; nothing is sent to us unless you request a security plan.
What about Scotland?
Only British Transport Police data is published for Scotland, so numbers there look artificially low.
